Belgium wins Cup

The World Cup of Golf was held at The Metropolitan Golf Club in South Oakleigh, Victoria. After a couple of opening 63's, Thomas Pieters and Thomas Detry (-23) had started the day with a five shot lead but had to contend with continual oi, oi, oi's and the crowd's overwhelming support for the Australian team. In the end they came out on top with a closing 68 and won the title for Belgium for the first time. Our local boys Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith (-20) came home strong with a closing 65 but had to settle for a second place tie along with Abraham Ancer who was still on a high from last week and his Mexican partner Roberto Diaz. Sharing fourth place were Canada's Adam Hadwin (-17) / Nick Taylor and Denmark's Olesen Thorbjorn / Kjeldsen Soren.

At Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas, Nevada, Tiger Woods took on Phil Mickelson in the much publicized 'The Match'. With a day that started with a $200,000 bet going Tiger's way after Phil missed his birdie putt and another $600,000 heading back into Phil's pocket, it was overall a pretty boring game against a couple of middle aged weekend golfing buddies. The betting did however go to a good cause as both players pledged their winnings to chosen charities. After Phil and Tiger were all square at the end of regulation play they headed back out for extra holes. After the fourth playoff hole and with the sun setting it came down to a simple four foot birdie putt for Phil to win the day and the huge $9,000,000 purse.

The European and Asian tours held the Hong Kong Open at the Hong Kong GC in Fanling, Hong Kong. After closing with a 69, Englishman Aaron Rai (-17) claimed his maiden European Tour title by a single shot. He did well to fend off his compatriot Matthew Fitzpatrick (-16) who jumped up the leader board with a closing 64. Coming in tied for third place were Victor Perez (-11) from France and Aussie Jason Scrivener. Scotland's David Drysdale (-10) was alone in fifth place. Other Australians in the field were Jake Higgnbottom (-8), Scott Hend (-8), Sam Brazel (-4), Deyen Lawson (-4), Wade Ormsby (-3) and Terry Pilkadaris (-1).

The Japanese tour played the Casio World Open at the Kochi Kuroshio Country Club in Kochi, Japan. Dancing his way to victory with a birdie on the final hole was Korea's Ho-Sung Choi (-15) who opened and closed with 67 for a one shot victory. Clocking up his ninth top ten finish this year was Aussie Brendan Jones (-14) who closed with a 66 to be solo second and put him in good form to compete in next week's JT Cup. Coming in third was Kyung-Nam Kang (-13) from Korea followed by his compatriots YE Yang (-12) and Sang-Hee Lee who shared fourth place with Japan's Yuta Ikeda. Other Aussies making the cut were Brad Kennedy (-7), Scott Strange (-7) and Matthew Griffin (-4).

The LET held the Andalucia Costa del Sol Open de Espana at the La Quinta Golf & Country Club in Málaga, Spain. After winning two months ago, big hitting Anne Van Dam (-13) from the Netherlands held on to her overnight lead and after completing her third round on Sunday morning she went on to claim her second tour title on Spanish soil. Local favorite Azahara Munoz (-10) was lurking close behind but could only manage a closing 69 to take solo second. Scotland's Catriona Matthew (-6) was third followed by Natalia Escuriola Martinez (-5) from Spain who tied for fourth place with Germany's Olivia Cowan. The only Australian girl to make the cut was Sarah Kemp (+6).

PGA Tour up coming event

Next week a select group of eighteen top players will take part in Tiger's Hero World Challenge at Albany, New Providence, Bahamas. Watch out for Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Thomas, Hideki Matsuyama, Justin Rose, Jon Rahm and Dustin Johnson. Jason Day will be the only Aussie in the field.

At Golf Traders we offer customers a fantastic service whereby you can sell, part exchange or swap your equipment. Repairs and upgrades are also our specialty.

Now is a great time to get rid of those old clubs you tend to have lying around the house. Don't let them collect dust, they would love a new home so why not turn them into cash... or at least let them go towards buying the new clubs that you have always wanted.

Click here to view our stock or come into our store and have a hit in our brand new practice facility, check out the clubs you have viewed online, but best of all try before you buy and save!

Number nine!

During your next practice session, rather than just hitting balls aimlessly at a distant target, try hitting all of the following shots.

High Fade---Regular fade---Low fade

High Straight---Regular Straight---Low Straight

High draw---Regular draw---Low draw

Executing these shots successfully requires a knowledge of moving the ball around in your stance, changing your alignment and learning the effect of opening and closing the club-face through impact. Challenging yourself with different shot shapes will give you more confidence when you are faced with difficult situations on the course.

If you want to improve your game, give us a call on 95173471 and make an appointment for a lesson with David.
